Catch Me If You Can!

I have a friend Sandy who is just about the opposite of Sarah. Sarah wants to stay home; Sandy never wants to be home. For me to catch up with Sandy, I have to travel with her. Oh, darn. One vacation, we drove from Pennsylvania to Texas, across the southern states to Florida and back up the east coast. We liked Charleston so much we decided to drive back down and spend Thanksgiving there. We were single, so hopping in a car and taking off at a moments notice was possible. Even when home, Sandy always had something going: cocktail party, bird watching, show opening, exhibit, hike, wedding...invite her and she was there.
Fast forward 25+ years and my dear friend is still the same. It’s no surprise that now she lives in a new development on the outskirts of Denver in a minimal upkeep ranch home with a smart and sexy boyfriend. I was out to visit for a week and nothing changed. We hopped in her electric car and zoomed all over Colorado. In four days, we visited the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, United States Air Force academy, drove up Pikes Peak, toured the Garden of the Gods, visited a possibly haunted mansion, stopped at any shop that caught our eye along the way, drove to the Great Sand Dunes and were fooled by terrific signage into eating at a roadside diner that made us ill.
By Friday, her boyfriend was pleading loneliness and claiming abandonment. We decided to stay home and take him out to eat. Truth be told, we were exhausted and needed to recharge for our final day together downtown at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
The interesting thing is, I don’t have a lot of photos of all our adventures. I do have a head full of fun and exciting memories. Outside of Sandy, I never talk about what we did at the Thirsty Turtle in Lebanon, Tennessee.
Adventure Boomers* like to travel (even alone), can hit the road without an agenda, carefree, don’t like to be tied down, enjoy being active and seeing new vistas, care about health and a healthy lifestyle and appreciate nature and a good view.
*Baby boomers are those born between 1944 and 1964. According to the “Seniors Real Estate Specialist® Council”, there are 6 major types of boomers. While no one falls entirely into one of these categories, the similarities are interesting to explore.
